Germany's capital, Berlin, is among the most expensive cities in Europe for buying and building apartments (ranked 19th in 2020), with an average cost of 5,000 euros per square meter. The project aims to solve Berlin's ever-growing cost of living by revitalizing a dying industrial zone at Westhafen in order to provide high quality housing at reasonable prices for it's users. This is sought after through the implementation of a new superblock typology containing mixed-use programs of recreational and residential spaces, as well as the development of a ferry route aimed to encourage tourism and commerce around a relatively unused industrial area of Berlin. The ultimate goal of the project is to promote the development of Berlin's current industrial zone into a new focal point of interest, relieving the high density near Berlin's center and alleviating the costs of living.
